There could be numerous reason why IE is not working anymore. IE has historically been notoriously bad, they have refused to adopt to web standards until recently and have promoted sloppy web programming and development for years. The coding may have been updated to something IE just doesn't handle like all the other browsers following web standards should.
Firefox is good, standards compliant but has become bloated over the years, if you use alot of plugins you might have performance issues. Chrome and Safari are really fast, standard compliant, but lack the plugin selection as Firefox. I would avoid using IE at all cost until at least IE9 comes out, id still probably avoid it even then. Really the only reason I ever seeing having to use IE is if you find a situation where only IE is the only browser that works, which there still are some. I use firefox for the majority of my web browsing. Even though the others are faster Im addicted to many plugins that I can ween myself off of. I typically use Safari for video viewing as its alot more stable than FF.
