I hate to do this, but looks like my best buddy is going to have to go. He's a 4 year old yellow labrador retriever named Tarzan. Some of y'all might remember him as the big, playful, spoiled dog at last year's Mega Run at Gilmer. He was also at the last October meeting at Pappa's BBQ. He's super friendly, loves kids, loves licking people in the face and loves to eat.
He has only a few bad habits, though. He likes to jump on you and your friends when you come home (kind of like Dino in the Flintstones) and has an incessant barking problem when left alone outside at night. The first problem isn't so bad. He's learned not to jump on you when you say "No jumping!" But it's the latter problem that has resulted in me trying to find a better home for him.
After getting a visit from Lancaster's finest and being threatened with costly citations, I can no longer keep him. I live alone and sometimes get home late from work. When the neighbor first complained, I tried one of those anti-barking collars that spray a lemony/citronella scent in his face. That worked for awhile, til he eventually learned he could just keep barking til the scent ran out or the battery died.
He has all his shots and his rabies vaccination (and rabies certificate). He's fully potty/house trained and knows all sorts of commands - sit, stay, come, lie down. He loves riding in the truck, jogging, retrieving balls and just being with people. He gets along great with other dogs and never gets in fights - heck, he even lets smaller dogs beat up on him. Kids can hit, tackle, wrestle, pull on his tail and sit on him, and he won't bite 'em. In fact, he loves it and thinks he's getting lots of attention.
I don't have any pics of him, but he's a pretty big yellow lab - about 80 - 90 lbs. Looks like a male version of Butters. Don't let the size fool ya, though. He's a sweet, friendly dog. He just hates being left alone, and when the sun comes down he starts to bark - probably separation anxiety.
I won't put him in the pound or desert him. And if you take him home, but then decide you don't want him, then I'll welcome him back. Like I said, he's my best bud, and I don't want to get rid of him, but I've attracted too much heat, like the bad guys like to say, and can't afford to get hit with costly citations. I'd feel better knowing he went to a good home with a loving family where he won't feel so lonely, and pretty much everyone I've met in this club meets that criteria.
If you want him, let me know. We're in Lancaster, just south of Dallas, by I-35E and Beltline.
