Wow! that looks great!
It also looks like you made it a lot shorter than the stock bed.

Are you able to keep your old bumper and just mount it different?

You can stop by anytime to use the tools; some nights I won't be able to help you, but the tools will always be there.
I will be working on my truck for the next few weeks, so I should be out in the garage each night.

Thanks Rod I have enough to keep me busy until I can be supervised in your garage. :D Let me know if you need help working on your rig most evenings I am free and I'm not far from you. This week we may start cutting the stock for Matt's sliders.

thanks for the offer, but right now most of the stuff is a one person job: I'm just moving pieces around in the engine bay.

What about you? do you need help with anything?

Yeah I agree OB, I decided not to skin the sides though. I am going to strip the paint back off and take my time cleaning up a few things and some brackets still need to be made along with fenders, tire carrier and misc. mounts. I lost alot of space. I would like to redo the bumper in the rear and cut the frame but I need to think about it for awhile.

Valkyrie

Although I agree it is a shame to hide that nice work, but I think after using it you'll find it'll help keep mud, etc. off your stuff.

red85toy
08-17-2005, 09:13 AM
I still like the idea of you welding on any extra tabs, brackets, etc....
mount everything on there, make sure it is exactly the way you want it, use it for a few wheeling trips and at least one camping trip, unbolt everything and take it in for powdercoating.

Thanks Tim I will keep that in mind. I Talked to Justin the other day and I am going to see him on sat. He may have a source for some large scrap pieces. I have plywood on it right now and it looks like shit! I definetly want to go with aluminum, so I may have to bite the bullet and shell out the cash eventually.

Why not go with steel? The extra wieght could help the overall front to rear weight, and help the rear flex better (compression). Oh, and it's cheaper.

I don't have any problems with the rear flexing now and I am not interested in dealing with the rust issues of steel. When you get a chance I would like you to help me make a hi lift mount similar to the one you made for OB, but horizontal.

Got some work done today, the bed is lined with 3/16th" aluminum and Cory stopped by we tried his spare tire mount and it fit like a glove . So we need to make one from his design. The al. looks a helluva lot better than the plywood. I still need to mount the co2 bottle,hi-lift and finish mounting the tool box.

Well the slant fender design on the flatbed is rubbing tire when flexed. So either I try the 2" pucks for mounts, live with it or cut out the fenders and redo them.

red85toy

let me know if you want help. I should have my truck out of the garage in 2 weeks.
Is it hitting just the fender or the flatbed frame?

Well Damn! Do you think a flat top fender would work better?

I vote for puck-ing it up!

COONASS
09-24-2005, 09:51 AM
The tire rubs the flatbed frame slightly but the slant fender is what it is hitting.I think I will just try the 2" pucks first and then make a the call based on what that does.

red85toy
09-24-2005, 09:57 AM
did you drive up the washout with your front tires?
ex: put your passenger tire up on the hill and your driver side rear tire will have maximum weight pushing down on it.
I would bet your rear tire will flex at least an extra inch compared to your photos you posted.

It takes a while but you may want to take apart your rear leaf packs, leave only the main leaf, bolt everything back on (including tires), test your suspension and see where it hits.
